Under continuous gunfire by primarily snipers, soldiers would shoot until they ran out of ammo. Areas were identified as free strike zones where everyone was a target by the United States military; these areas were identified by maps made by the military troops. For the United States this was the first war to shown on the media and be televised. Many Americans were clueless about how brutal this war actually was until many pictures and videos were released that shown the true mission of the American government. This led to many protests from the American citizens and anti-warfare groups because the government was misleading the public, this turned to a distrust between the American citizens and the government which still takes place in today’s society.
Although World War I was known for brutality and the dehumanizing of troops, the Vietnam War was more violent because of the improvement in war technology, tanks and planes were improved, guns were used to kill thousands of innocent people and the war was primarily between the two main global powers: United States and Russia. For the United States the war was unnecessary from them to get involved and just led to the death of thousands of young soldiers lives.
