Racial Stereotypes Analysis

The visual media piece that was most intriguing was the April 2008 Vogue cover of LeBron James and Gisele Bundchen. The image of historically poplar magazine created allegations of racial stereotyping. It shaped parallels with a similar image of King Kong holding a terrified woman, which would be Fay Wray. I will discuss how our culture sees racial stereotypes through imagery, along with the media, comparing other ethnic backgrounds and experiences with colorblind racism. The majority of the world is colorblind to racism but it still exist. Racism effects the way people live their lives; for example, the majority of welfare people are seen as blacks. When actually the largest percent is whites. So many blacks are looked down on; I feel like these assumptions that most blacks are uneducated and poor. LeBron gave a ape-like image with his teeth showing and what seems to be a roar. LeBron bounces a basketball at the same time holding the waist of the smaller Gisele Bundchen. The King Kong poster that it relates to is a more vicious type of image with the ape roaring and the girl appearing terrified. Gisele does not look terrified at all, in fact she smiling giving an opposite impression to the King Kong poster. Having a cover that is similar to the King Kong image will still bring stereotypes out such as people seeing it as racist. For example, many will see it simply as a black man wanting a white woman and so he holds her against her will and this image can look negative to those people. The image does try and portray an innocence of the women but it still brings a non-innocent perception. It could bring out raise remarks and themes. Many could also see it as potential violation of a white women by an over powering black man; or King Kong, as it is comparable to that
