Sniffy The Virtual Rat Experiment

The study consisted of four rats. All the rats are male and are virtual albino Sprague-dawley. The rats in this study are not previously conditioned.
Material
The experiments were completed using the computer program, Sniffy the Virtual Rat Version 3.0 (Alloway, Wilson, & Graham, 2012). This program allows us to stimulate a virtual rat and perform classical conditioning and operant conditioning. This program avoids using real rats for the sake of analyzing the psychology of learning. The program allows us to stimulate a virtual rat in a behavior very similar to an actual rat. Using data that was previously collected from experiments done on an actual rat, the program is able to stimulate similar behavior using the virtual

The first exercise is Acquisition; the second exercise is Extinction; the third exercise is Spontaneous Recovery; and the fourth exercise is Varying Strength of the Conditioned Stimulus.
In the first exercise we analyzed Acquisition. Sniffy is exposed to the CS, which is the medium tone. Being that he shows no reaction to this tone, we can conclude that it is a neutral stimulus. Also, we can note that when the CS is weak, the conditioning occurs slower, so the fear response will happen slower. Then, we exposed sniffy to the US, which is a medium shock. The first exercise analyzing Acquisition had ten trials with five-minute intervals in between each trial.
In the second exercise we analyzed Extinction. Sniffy is exposed to the CS, which is the medium tone, but Sniffy is not exposed to an US. The second exercise analyzing Extinction had thirty trials with five-minute intervals in between each trial.
In the third exercise we analyzed Spontaneous Recovery. After putting Sniffy in a twenty-four hour time out, Sniffy is exposed to the CS, which is the medium tone, but Sniffy is not exposed to an US. The third exercise analyzing Spontaneous Recovery had fifteen trials with five-minute intervals in between each

Parts of the figures were not in line because of experimental error. The data reveals that during the first exercise, Acquisition, Sniffy exhibits an increasing CR and CER as he is continuously being exposed to the CS, a medium intensity tone, paired with the US, a medium intensity shock (Table 1). We can note that the fear response is occurring slower because the CS is weaker. After the tenth trial in the first exercise, Sniffy has reached the plateau, which is when the level of fear is reached.
The second exercise, Extinction, as Sniffy is being exposed to the CS, the medium intensity tone, throughout the thirty trials. The data reveals that after the 25th exposure to the CS, he no longer has any response to the medium intensity tone (CS) (Table 2).
The third exercise, Spontaneous Recovery, the data revealed that after Sniffy is removed from the twenty-four hour timeout, he still showed a response when exposed to the CS. The constant exposure to the CS, medium intensity tone, resulted in an increased fear response. This data revealed this activity of an increased fear response during the fifteen trials, and begins to diminish after the fifteenth trial (Table 3). We can note that spontaneous should be diminished faster than

The materials and apparatus used in this experiment were: a PC computer, IWX/214, LabScribe Software, SP-304 Spirometer, FH-300 Spirometer flow hear and plastic tubes. The regular set up of the apparatus and more details of the procedure can be found from the Lab Manual on laboratory # 10 respiration, which was used as a reference. After setting the computer software (LabScribe), and calibrating voltage to 22 L which was written in the spirometer black box, a test of the Spirometer was performed to make sure it was in the right position. (A spirometer is an apparatus for measuring the volume of air inspired and expired by the lungs.) It was tested by recording one person breath on the software and observed the waves in the lung volume screen.…

Valeria Oceguera Chapter 6 Extra Credit Habituation is when someone ignores something around them because they know what it is and sensitization is when someone hears something and quickly stops what they are doing to know what the sound is. Pavlov paired a ringer with food to give to the dog, when the dog heard the ringer he knew that he was going to receive food. Little Albert in an experiment was shown a rat but when the rat was paired up with a big noise little albert got scared of the rat. The unconditioned stimulus is petting the rat, the neutral is the rat and the conditioned stimuli is little albert being scared of the rat. The unconditioned response is trying to pull away from the rat, the conditioned response is not being afraid…

Hello Dr Buxbaum, Below is my weekly update for this week from 3rd Aug '16 to 5th Aug '16. 1) FMR1 5-choice training: - At the end of the 6th week of the Fmr1 rat training, we have one rat that will be presented with the challenge trials in the upcoming week. The rat running on the challenge schedules for one week performed at around 67% accuracy rate with less than 16% omissions on the baseline schedules. This performance was observed after subjecting the rat to a long ITI (8sec) schedule, a short ITI (3sec) schedule and a randomized long ITI schedule(time ranging from 5.5-9.5sec).…

Purpose: The purpose of performing this experiment is to see the change of and/or how quickly the skin color and heart rate can return to normal after the test subject has been exercising and resting for 10 minutes. Hypothesis: If the color of the skin and the heart rate are examined before, during, and after ten minutes of jumping jacks, then the collected data for the before and after should match.…

Aggression and Racial Ingroup and Outgroup Ostracism Belonging was necessary for the establishment of mental health, reproductive success, and security in human (Baumeister & Leary, 1995). The advantages in establishing and maintaining social connections were numerous, for example obtained social support from groups, accessed critical resources and potential mates, and protected from environmental dangers (Buss, 1990). In fact, Baumeister and Leary (1995) suggested that belonging to social groups was so vital to human survival that should be count as one of the basic needs, together with shelter and nourishment. In view of the importance of belonging, numerous research examined the response of people when they did not belong, through the act…

Responses were more spread out over interval between reinforcement. Occasionally, there is certain part that that have longer pauses than usual but they are not frequent. When FR-5 was introduced, the responses rate was slow, and there were pauses in between the responses an indication that Sniffy was s still operating on the F1 schedule and hence waited before responding. On the contrary, When FR-10 was introduced, the response was rapid, and there were no long pauses in between. At this transition, Sniffy was performing new association concerning the number of responses it had to make before being reinforced thus responded at a higher rate than normal.…
