This movie actually surprised me the first time I saw it. I was expecting a large dose of sentimentality, leading up to a musically heightened battle scene. But what I got was truly far better than my expectations. This movie doesn’t even include a speck of cheap sentiment. The directors and producers focused on sharp realism. During the first few minutes of the flight, ordinary passengers are seen doing ordinary things: airline pilots chatting about their training schedules, lawyers and business men and women calling their offices and their families, even the flight attendants were delighted for a lightly loaded plane. The film was Rated-R because of the “graphic details”, however this movie has far less violence than most PG-13 movies I’ve seen like “Scary Movie”. This movie was (in my opinion) far worse and far more violent and horrific than “United 93” Perhaps the reason the movie had a mature audience rating was because the writers and producers didn’t want children to see the horror in the truth behind 9/11. I asked my mother her opinion about the movie and she agreed that the movie was too much for even her to handle, stating “I felt the same emotions that I felt on 9/11 all over again. I felt the hate and anger again. I started hating the terrorists in those planes again”. To conclude, in spite of all the controversy of this film, I believe that “United 93” is one of the greatest movies ever created. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it.
