Adolescents and young children in this generation have become accustomed to video games playing a very important role in their lives. It has reached the extent of having awards being given praising these games for their violence, gore scenes, and bloody deaths. This celebration of violence marketed towards adolescents and young adults are being honored and celebrated. Meanwhile, horrifying shootings occur and everyone seems confused; no one knows the reasons for such random acts of violence. When we take into account what our youth is doing for entertainment and begin to analyze the repercussions, these organizations who are responsible for giving glory to killing all stomp their feet and say “We’re not to be blamed”. This shift in emotions then begin to make the children more hostile and unable to react different and become more aggressive in certain situations. These days video games are becoming more advanced and are now the player is able to conduct these violent actions in many ways, first person, and hand-to-hand combat. Making the decision on how you want to kill your enemy all in your own hands. Games like Call of Duty, and Grand Theft Auto are prime examples of games that offer these first person violent actions. Not only are you getting rewarded and reminded with sayings like “Great Kill +50” you’re the one who 's doing all the killing. According to a report from APA its states, “ The research demonstrates a consistent relation between violent video games use and increase in aggressive behaviour, aggressive cognitions and aggressive affect, and decreases in prosocial behavior, empathy and sensitivity to aggression.” (Radowitz,2015) Proving, these video games are starting to have an effect are children, now that it’s it first person, who knows the real damage it can cause a child, especially if that child is suffering from other issues and using the game not only as a form of entertainment but a way to cope or …show more content…
Yet, unlike movies video games are an dependent upon the individual 's participation. You as the player are in charge of dealing out the violence and death. Then, afterwards you’re rewarded on how well you hurt your enemy. It’s a way to receive praise and accolades for violent behavior, a conditioning of sorts. The better you are at killing, the more points you get. For instance, in Mortal Kombat, a player earns extra points by killing their opponent in a more gruesome death then the norm. In Grand Theft Auto, if you kill a bystander a majority of them you will earn the money they had. All these actions are done by you, you’re the one who choose to kill your opponent horribly, you’re the one who choose to beat a random bystander.
