Companies that many would least expect, like Honda and Toyota, have a number of diesel products available overseas that are not available here. As diesel technology is becoming more popular car companies are beginning to slowly phase diesels into the American car market. Audi, Volkswagen, and Mercedes already had diesels in the car market, but now other manufacturers are beginning to unveil their own new diesel options. Chrysler has begun to put diesels in the light duty Ram 1500s and Jeep Grand Cherokees. General Motors has placed a diesel motor in their compact Chevy Cruze sedan. BMW is also joining in by making more diesels available in the lineup of their vehicles (DeMuro). The demand for diesel vehicles is expected to grow over the next few years, especially towards Western States where sales of non-commerical vehicles are “surging” (Reed). Also a few other manufacturers like Ford, Nissan, and Mazda plan to soon bring diesel models from overseas to the Unites States. Eventually, there will be plenty of diesel options to choose from for new car …show more content…
There are plenty of gasoline stations that offer diesel fuel available throughout America. According to Consumer Reports, “The U.S. Census Bureau reports that the percentage of gas stations selling diesel went up from about 35% in 1997 to more than half in 2007” (“Not That Easy”). However, the nozzle sizes are not clearly marked for consumer vehicles or semi trucks. This causes a problem when people try to fill up because the nozzle will not fit their car. Even worse, pumps that were supposed to be set up specifically for passenger vehicles are not being equipped with the correct nozzle which in turns causes vehicle owners’ problems when trying to refuel their vehicles (Not That Easy). If more supervision is in place to make sure that the correct equipment is installed for diesel passenger vehicles then there would be less inconvenience for car owners to refuel their vehicle and potentially more revenue from diesel fuel sales. Also, a diesel vehicle can run on more than just diesel. Diesel can normally run on biodiesel and vegetable oils as well. However, vegetable oil can become expensive, so used vegetable oil is often cleaned and can be changed to bio-diesel fuel (Diesel vs). This is a more eco-friendly alternative compared to regular diesel fuel. Even though it may not be easy, diesels already have the infrastructure to
