For example, an experiment conducted in South Africa by H. Liang, A.J. Flisher, C.J. Lombard attempted to discover a correlation between the two, specifically victims of bullying and criminal behaviour. The experiment involved examining children in grades eight through eleven to identify how bullying affected their likelihood of criminal behaviour. The experiment concluded that those who are bullied have a greater risk of fighting, carrying a weapon, stealing, and vandalism (Sansone 2013). It was also found in this experiment that, “victims may experience psychological symptoms such as social difficulties, internalizing symptoms, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and eating disorders as well as somatic symptoms such as poor appetite, headaches, sleep disturbances, abdominal pain, and fatigue” (Sansone …show more content…
For example, Sourander conducted a second experiment and concluded that being a victim of bullying was not associated with antisocial behaviour. There was also second Finnish experiment operated by Lukkonen. In this observation they discovered that victims of bullying were not at risk for later criminal activity. Although these experiments conclude that their is no correlations between the two conditions, there are many more experiments that prove that there is a correlation between being a victim of bullying and exhibiting criminal behaviour later in life (Sansone 2013).
There is a correlation between being a victim of bullying and committing criminal act later in life. Bullying taxes the victim mentally as well as physically. The victim experiences mental issues such as social difficulties, anxiety, depression and possible suicidal intentions. The victim experience physical issues such as eating disorders, headaches, sleep disturbances, abdominal pain, and fatigue. These conditions could cause people to do things they would not normally do. Once again bullying takes its toll on victims.
