Introduction
The Veteran Health Affairs (VHA) attempt at improving mental health services, specifically, suicide and homicide include the infrastructure of the National Veterans Crisis Line, formerly known as the National Veterans Suicide Prevention Hotline . This twenty-four hotline is toll free and confidential, precisely designated for veterans, active duty service members, and their family or friends (Britton, Bossarte, Thompson, Kemp, Conner, 2013). All Veteran Affairs Medical Centers (VAMC) have a minimum of one suicide prevention coordinator (SPC), they supervise the responders and veterans communication in their local area through the Veterans Crisis Line (Britton, Bossarte, Thompson, Kemp, Conner, 2013). Essentially, ethical leaders stimulate the conduct of their followers by displaying appropriate behaviors (Bouckenooghe, Zafar, & Raja, 2015). Individuals that possess morals have personal characteristics that include honesty, integrity, and dependability (Bouckenooghe, Zafar, & Raja, 2015). Throughout the documentary suicide prevention coordinators were seen working in the same vicinity as staff, often administering an active role in the exchanges taking place between the responders and veterans. Ethical leadership encompasses specific characteristics of personal conduct, that is ethically conducive with appropriate decision-making, further developing relationships with individuals that encourages these individuals to follow ethical guidelines (Lawton & Páez , 2015). Distinct roles of leadership include creating moral within organizations, advancing the development of individuals, and establishing values within the culture of an organization (Lawton & Páez , 2015). In addition, other distinct roles of leadership comprise leaders commitments to others, specifically their followers, resulting in leader’s singular rank in terms of power, status, and authority. Ethical conduct is vital for appropriate operatives of society as an entirety including organizations (Angelidis & Ibrahim, 2011). In addition, it is possible that a significant amount of organizations publish code of ethics and code of conduct, but leadership of an ethically intelligent supervisor will venture beyond these said documents ensuring they are actually preceded. While viewing the documentary, responders displayed ethical intelligence that included listening to background noises such as the clicking of a gun, faint and emotions in tone of voice, and specifics of suicide methods such as pills, belts, guns and razors.
