The Vermont Teddy Bear

Decent Essays
The main problem in this case is involving Vermont Teddy Bear which was John Sortino in 1981 is that the companies point of sale system was severely lagging behind. In 2011, The company struggled with major surges in customer periods for example Valentine's day and Christmas Eve this occurred because of VTB's intricate middleware system. The issue may have happened because instead of revamping it's system during down periods the company attempted to do patch work jobs overtime. This is quite alarming because a major retailer would not have these types of issues with the system when they need it most. Which leads to the next point of the IT supervisor being faced with a dilemma on what to improve prior to the next surge period(Mother's day week).

A seven-year-old child is in a math class learning simple addition and subtraction of single digit numbers. To logically approach this mathematical concept, the instructor employs the analogy of cookies; she asks, “if your mom left four cookies on the table, but your sister took two of the cookies, how many cookies can you eat?”. A smart and logical child raises his hand and says, “I can eat two cookies!” and the teacher rewards him with a lollipop for correctly answering the question. However, according to Salinger, that child does not deserve a lollipop because he only answered the question logically, not spiritually.…

BP was having a problem with the amount of contractors they were employing and the amount of money that was being funneled to these contractors. The extent in which BP was relying on contractors caused them to lose control over the projects that the contractors were completing. This in demonstrated with the company not even having a number of how many contractors they had employed, to the point where they had to stop counting (O 'Brien & Marakas, 2013). Having too many contractors puts projects out of the view of managers which can cause problems if the project goes overdue or over budget. Essentially, the dependence of PO’s IT organization on external contracts resulted in difficulties in maintaining control of the IT department due to the majority of them not actually belonging to BP.…
