With much fearlessness, Beowulf proceeds to enter her residence; where this creature has ruled the waters for over fifty years. Mourning the death of her son, Grendel’s mother sadistically attacks Beowulf, trying to deduct him of his armor. Beowulf’s only weapon: his sword was ineffective against her impenetrable skin. He was left with only one additional tactic: his hands. Using his hands, he grasps Grendel’s mother by the shoulder, flinging her across. Another opportunity arose when he treated himself to a magical sword hanging on the wall; a sword invested by the power of magic of the giants. Beowulf comes into contact with Grendel’s mother while holding the sword. Then, using his leftover energy, he struck her in the neck, decapitating her. “Caught her in the neck and cut it through, broke bones and all. Her body feel to the floor, lifeless” (41). Still angry, Beowulf approaches Grendel’s lifeless body in a nearby corner. To annihilate Grendel, Beowulf beheads him with the sword. “Then struck off his head with a single swift blow.
