“The Veldt” Thematic Essay Ray Bradbury’s dystopian story, “The Veldt,” takes place in a “Happylife Home,” where the house does everything and has everything, even an oven that serves dinner and the house is like a mother and maid. However there's one problem, the family is turning into a mess just because of the house is a mess and the technology is messing up everything.
From the beginning, the technology in their “HappyLife Home” so much that they begin to feel useless. Lydia, the mother, is the first one to see “HappyLife Home” as a threat. She begins to feel not important to the children and wants to experience normal human tasks once again, so she suggests that they take a “vacation” and shut off the home for some time. “Why don’t we shut the whole house off for a few days and take a vacation?” Lydia thinks it’s a great idea to shut off the house because it is best for her family so their brains can refresh and focus on what’s really going on with the real world and trying something new not just having technology do it all. In response, Wendy and Peter begin to hate their parents. George and Lydia became concerned about their “HappyLife Home” because it took the role of the parents, they feel as if they're being phased out by their technology. “We've given the children everything they ever wanted. Is this our reward -secrecy, disobedience?” George and Lydia did the right thing because Peter and Wendy needed to stay out of the nursery room because they would make a lot of stuff appear. It’s better staying off technology because if the family would have been different in the story but with all that technology it messed up
