The Veldt Literary Analysis

Ray Bradbury ingeniously used the themes in the short story “The Veldt” to reveal the family issues in the developing society. “Technology” is an indispensable theme in the story. Hadley’s family living in the modern house with all the high technical machines piecemeal makes them forget the value of the family love. Not only because of that reason, but also because the parents are too busy with their work and oblivious about their kids: “It seemed that, at a distance, for the past month, he had heard lions roaring, and smelled their strong odor seeping as far away as his study door. But, being busy, he had paid it no attention.” (Bradbury, 4). George and Lydia might think that their sufficient provision in that house is enough for the children. The kids should be raised up by their parents’ love and caring. This case exists in many wealthy families. Anyway, the power of technology will not be able to replace the love of parents and all the parents should perceive this basic thing. Lack of parents’ love will lead to the rebellion of the kids. Additionally, “rebellion” is one of the most important theme in “The Veldt”. “I wish you were dead!” (Bradbury, 11). That is what a son said to his father and it is unaccepted to say the rude words to the father like that. Their children’s attitude is the consequence of the wrong education of the parents. A part of the parents’ responsibilities will affect their children’s behaviours. Therefore, the education of the family since they were children is really essential. This is a common thing happening to a lot of families. In the growth time, the children will have many mental problems and all they need is a person that can share and talk to them. Without the caring from the parents, it might not only cause the disobedience, but the kids are also able to get the depression or even
