Omnivores, vegetarians, and vegans can all find something to eat at the Spotted Dog. This quaint, unique restaurant is wedged between Main Street and Weaver Street about a mile and a half from UNC Chapel Hill. The restaurant was co-founded by couple Linda Bourne and Karin Mills in 1998 (The Spotted Dog). Linda, a vegetarian, and Karin, an omnivore, wanted to create a restaurant that catered to both lifestyles. Half of the menu consists of vegetarian options while the other has options for meat lovers (The Spotted Dog). The diversity of the menu makes this restaurant a great choice for couples with different dietary needs. I decided to bring my vegetarian girlfriend to the restaurant to see if it was able to satisfy both our palates. As we journeyed down Franklin Street to the restaurant, we passed Cat’s Cradle, a small concert venue that hosts many local indie and folk bands. It happened to be the day of the popular Carrboro Music Festival, and as we walked we could hear the din of loud music and crowds. The veggie bbq was served on the same fluffy bun I lauded in the cheeseburger. The veggie bbq had a softer texture than real meat and fell apart easily. The “meat” mostly fell out of the sandwich, which forced me to salvage what I could using a fork. The veggie bbq was saturated with sauce. The sauce was vinegar-based and tangy. Overall, it was a decent dish, but paled in comparison to a regular pork BBQ sandwich. The Crazie chips were more impressive. The Crazie chips are homemade baked potato chips with just the right amount of salt. The chips are a few millimeters thick, which is much thicker than regular potato chips found in a vending machine. Most importantly, the chips were crispy and every bite offered a satisfying crunch. These potato chips were appetizing and served as a good side
