In the play Antigone by Sophocles, there are many greek values present in the play however, the virtue of family prominent throughout the story line. In greek culture family is very valuable. Family is a bond held together by love and trust and loyalty that can never be broken. Throughout the play this love is expressed in many ways.. In the play Haimon, Polyneices and Antigone display the love and trust accompanied with family. In the text Sophocles writes, “But I must bury him; and if I must die, I say this crime is holy; I shall lie down with him in death, and I shall be as dear to him as he to me” (Sophocles 55). This excerpt from the text illustrates the greek value of family because it shows how Antigone knew Creon's laws were wrong
