Morality is relative to an individual and culture is because different people and cultures hold a myriad of different values. Due to this they develop differing views on how life should be viewed because of their contrasting priorities in life. In the United States we value independence while in other countries, people value community over the individual. This is why I believe different individuals and cultures have different morals. In some places, honor killings are an issue because people there see it as being okay just because a dishonor has been brought upon a family in their community’s eyes. To them the dishonor is the perfect pretext to take action. In the culture in the U.S. we see “dishonor” as something a family can change. They can make amends and if that doesn’t work, the family living with the dishonor is usually told to grow a thick skin and move past it.
