What is Americanism? The love of American traditions and institutions? The love of American values? It’s all of these and much more. Americanism to me is the love of our founding ideals, great traditions, and the institutions that uphold all of these, but also our ability to create new traditions, to learn from our mistakes, and change.
The US was founded on the ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This last one to me is the most important not only because of the historical value, but also because of the inherent message that each and every one of us should be able to find some value in our lives, and the first two values are key in keeping this open, so that all may enjoy this gift that is our country.
