The value chain model is best described as a useful tool that is used in an organisation to maintain its competitive advantage over its rivals. The value chain consists of a sequence of events that incorporates activities which generate and shapes its values at every stage in the business. This model evaluates the value in every specific area or activity that would improve the company’s products or services. The main goal of the value chain model is to see whether the activities conducted within and around the organisation can provide the best value for money with the products and services being offered. This would also give management an idea of their competitive fortitude in the world of business.

As some customers choose to remain loyal to a preferred airline as price is a major determining factor. For example, Caribbean Airlines is a preferred choice for its warmth, hospitality and reliability and many Caribbean destinations, as compared to Virgin Atlantic which has a limited number of Caribbean destinations on their schedule. Furthermore, Caribbean Airlines has invested heavily in the area of technology, this is also necessary in order to maintain international standards. At Piarco Airport in Trinidad, kiosk booths are available to passengers for check-in and boarding passes without having to go to the check-in counter. There is also the advantage of using the web check-in system which makes travelling hassle-free for many travellers. Using this type of service has enhanced the airline’s efficiency, and through little innovative ways has increased its customer satisfaction.
Another key area is its human resource, where Caribbean Airlines has over 1,100 workers in their employ and the staff is mostly from the Caribbean. Training is provided for its staff as the airline knows the importance of keeping its human resource motivated and skilled. The airline has a brand camp which gives staff the opportunity to interact with each other. The airline infrastructure includes many policies such as accounting and financial policies, regulatory compliance together with its legal and community activities for successful
