Many parents today are against giving their children vaccinations because they believe that they do not prevent illness but instead cause it. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) explains in detail what chickenpox’s is and the importance of getting vaccinated. According to the CDC’s article “Most children with chickenpox completely recover. But it can be serious, even deadly, especially for babies, pregnant women, adolescents, adults, and people with weakened immune systems.” (CDC, 2015). The CDC shows the importance of the chickenpox vaccine through ethos, pathos, and logos.

According to the CDC, the chickenpox’s “leaves a person feeling very sick and uncomfortable, and may cause sick people to miss a week or more of school or work” (CDC, 2015). In the article regarding the importance of chickenpox vaccinations, we do not see a strong sense of pathos. The article is used to persuade society and give examples of how important it is to get your chickenpox vaccination. Logos is used to employ reasoning behind why things happen. Chickenpox is a highly contagious disease that is easily spread amongst others. According to the CDC, “the best way to prevent chickenpox is to get the chickenpox vaccine.” (CDC, 2011). It is important for society to understand the importance of vaccines and that it is not abnormal to get this disease. The CDC’s article makes it a point that “the chickenpox vaccine is safer to get than the actual chickenpox itself.” (CDC, 2015). The chickenpox vaccine truly is the best way to protect you and your loved ones from getting the chickenpox. The CDC lets its audience know that although this can be a serious disease there are ways to protect themselves and their families.
