Curcumin has the ability to stimulate the gallbladder to produce bile. Bile is helpful in improving the digestive function. In another study, a placebo controlled study showed that turmeric was able to reduce gas and bloating in people suffering from indigestion. A scientific advisory board in Germany called German Commission E has approved the use of turmeric in curing various digestive problems. The commission is tasked with approving herbs for various treatments and therapies.

Incidences of cancer in children under 5-years has grown phenomenally over the last century. The growth of cancer in the latter half of the 20th century is mainly attributed to various modern environmental and lifestyle factors including prenatal and postnatal exposure to environmental pollutants and radiation. To counter some of these effects, studies have shown that taking foods spiked by turmeric can reduce the risk of a child developing leukemia.

According to the George Mateljan Foundation, a long-term demographic study by Loyola University Medica Center, Chicago researcher, Prof. Mookly Nagabhushan has found that the rate of childhood leukemia in Asia was lower compared to that of children in Western countries.
