In the story “Everyday Use” there was a mother of two. She was a very hard working mother, whose daughters were very unlike each other. Dee was a much more fancy and high-class kind of person, Dees wild, colorful, clothing shows that she is a colorful, vibrant woman and also unwilling to be characterized as her mother and sister, Dee doesn’t want to be seen in raggedy clothing. She sees her self higher than the rest of them. As soon as she arrived with her husband or friend, the first thing she did was take pictures of her mother and her sister, with out saying hello with a hug or a kiss. And the way I see this is that all she wants is to take as much as she can so she can show off her old heritage because Dee isn’t a fan of old stuff. She prefers the new and styled things rather than the old. That’s why Maggie was afraid to even speak because she new Dee was all about popularity and loved showing off. It was mashpotatoes , with meat . Dees husband does not eat meat due to his religion . They rather eat soul food instead but to be kind they ate off of mamas food. What Dee and her husband rather eat is “Soul food” it is one of the main dish bowls in Africa. It defines their culture because it is one of a kind and they eat this only in Africa. Soul food was invented in the time where slavery was happening. So soul food would be the key to Dees heart.
