Doctor Olson quickly becomes very agitated and is not going to give up until he gets the throat culture. Because of the ongoing conflict, the climax quickly approaches and demonstrates the severity of the situation. Within minutes the doctor has just about had it with the patient. He is at his breaking point and has decided to use all that he had to get the child’s mouth open. By using a metal tongue depressor he vigorously sticks it down her throat until she begins to gag and to his amusement bleeds profusely. At this point in the story the reader is on the edge. The climax continues to rise until the patient is able to break free from the arms that were keeping her tied down. The climax of The Use of Force has obligated the audience to assume that the doctor was intentionally trying to harm the patient to presume his authority. As a doctor there are going to be times where patients are not going to be as cooperative as others. Maintaining a professional and calm state is the only way that is going to allow a successful diagnosis. Olson starts his visit with a very calm tone, however his frustration elevates and results in a violence attack. Examining this story further shows that Olson does not seem to be the right person that should be accessing patients because he shows signs of a short temper and one who will not stop until he gets what he wants.
