In Of mice And Men they are all working on a small ranch. Working on a ranch did not require brains like other jobs that were available during the time. Most of the men that worked on the ranch were not the smartest and they all seemed to lack social skills along with problem solving skills.Most of the men solved their disagreements through fighting, this was something an animal would most likely do as well. The men would get into brawls over simple things most of the time. An example of when John Steinbeck used animal imagery to describe the working class was when Lennie and Curley had gotten into a fight about Curley’s wife and the narrator had said “Curley stepped over to Lennie like a terrier.” John Steinbeck used Curley’s behavior and compared it to that of a terrier before he had gotten into the fight with Lennie.
