Temple University Case Study Essay

Temple University is located in the center of an urban community called North Philadelphia. The North Philadelphia community is mostly filled with residents and students who attend Temple University. In these neighborhoods, it is noticeable that they are filled with either abandoned houses, empty lots, or even mini markets and Chinese stores. Many of these people that have been living in North Philadelphia, have been living in the same home for years and noticed quite a few changes in the community. One of the new renovations that has been proposed is the new football stadium that Temple University has decided to build for the Temple Owls in the center of North Philadelphia, on Broad and Norris. This could possibly lead to homelessness and poverty in the community. Basically, this is pushing people out of their homes for the good of the students. As for students, Temple’s master plan could lead to higher cost of living for students to accommodate them, especially if they are renting a house or a room, it could depend on the area as well. Rowley mentions that, “… an organization may no longer be able to function effectively when communication is basically one way and community relationship is not fostered. I believe that this could all lead back to communicating with the community because without communication, it could cause a lot of financial problems” (Rowley 54). If Temple would communicate more with the locals and residents of North Philadelphia, it would resolve many issue and create common ground.
