62). The universal design of learning will provide schools with a greater level of success, as students can access education more effectively. It will also provide schools with more inclusion and equality within the classroom. The UDL practices ensure that students receive education is an equal way, and this provides a more solid framework for the building blocks of the school pedagogy, as the implementation of education is targeted equally amongst all student and their varied level of learning. This is achieved by allowing teachers to plan lessons with the inclusion of all students. “In the past two decades, neuroscience has demonstrated that learners are highly variable in the ways they learn and that this variability is the norm, not the exception”, (Glass, Meyer & Rose, 2013. Pg. 197). Knowledge is gained in different methods, and it is important that the different methods are presented in the classroom to ensure that all students have the same chance at knowledge acquisition as …show more content…
It is paramount that schools correctly implement the UDL system within schools, to ensure that students are benefiting from the system correctly. The implementation of the UDL system within schools needs to be addressed in a more in depth way. Teachers are not always equipped with the background knowledge of the UDL system, and this can result in teachers not correctly implementing the system within classrooms. It is paramount that not only schools, but also the teachers implement the UDL framework within classrooms. This will ensure that the engagement aspect of the framework is met. This will allow students to have more of an interest in the lesson, and feel inclined to take control of their learning.
As stated by Glass (2010),
The UDL guidelines around meeting the variance in engagement are to provide options to recruit interest, to provide options to sustain engagement and to provide options to develop self-regulation (pg. 11).
By providing teachers with the instructions of how to implement the UDL framework within the classroom, and provide training of how to correctly teach the frameworks will allow for a more smooth transition for both schools and teachers. Teachers, who do not have to knowledge of the correct way to implement the framework, will have students that do not benefit, and that do not receive the correct level of engagement as other students.
