A long long time ago, in a land where people treated each other very mean, there lived three heroes who dreamed of changing the badness. Their names were Eli, Willy, and Dave. These great men grew up to be writers who inspired many people to join their cause, and also support people who already believed in their cause.
They were men who felt that slavery was wrong and wanted to put an end to such a horrible act. Slavery is when somebody buys a person and makes them work, even when the person does not want to be bought. The people being bought were known as slaves, these people were from a different country called Africa. Slaves were treated very poorly, and did not get money for their work. Willy, Dave, and Eli all met in Illinois at a newspaper shopping stand. The all complained about how the newspaper shop/stand did not have enough anti-slavery articles.
Dave says, “Wow, there is nothing in here about slavery. When will my people ever get the freedom they deserve?”
Eli says, “I agree. Back when I ran my own newspaper, I would write many stories against slavery. A bunch of people even supported my writings, but a lot of people did not so I had to move here. I came here to start my own newspaper”
Willy says, “My good sir, I also had my own newspaper. I would write many anti-slavery stories. I also was apart of a special group of people who helped slaves achieve their freedom. I also came here to start a newspaper”
Dave says, “I have an idea. Why don’t the three of us just start our own newspaper?”
Willy replies, “That’s a great idea! Hopefully the people here in Illinois won’t get mad like they did in Massachusetts.”
Eli says, “I could help us with the writing.”
Willy says, “I have some money from selling my parents’ house so I could buy the equipment.” Dave says, “I could help spread the word to slaves. They will listen to me because I was once a slave …show more content…
To do this, they needed a printing press, which was the machine that printed the newspapers. This was a very large, noisy machine so they needed to set it up in its own room. Together they bought a room near a sea port and founded their company, Abolition Inc.. Abolition is the action or an act of getting rid of a system or practice. Everything was going great, until a mob of people who supported slavery trashed their printing press. These people are considered to be pro-slavery, because they supported slavery. These were usually people who owned farms or factories and used slaves to work. They made a lot of money by using slaves instead of people who would actually get paid. After this the guys were heartbroken.
Dave: “What are we gonna do! Without a machine we’ll have to close up shop. Do we have enough money to rebuild?”
Willy: “Yeah we can, and we will. The pro-slavery mob just wants us to give up, but that’s not gonna happen. Right,
