The United States of America has always been a melting pot of different cultures and ethnicities. Over the past 30 years our southern border of the United States has been a dangerous thoroughfare for illegal immigrants to pass through on a daily basis. Recently, the United States has seen an increase in the amount of minors crossing the border without their parents. In fact, the Pew Research Center reported a 117% increase in the number of minors aged 12 and younger apprehended at the country 's southwest border in the first eight months of this fiscal year compared with the entire 2013 fiscal year (Jordan, 2014). With the increase in illegal unaccompanied minors in the United States, I am deeply concerned for the welfare of my family and the legitimate citizens of the United States. These minors will bring unnecessary financial stress to our country’s annual budgets, decrease the quality of learning in public schools, and increase the amount of individuals on welfare.
As most Americans already know, the United States of America currently carries a deficit of 17 trillion dollars (US Debt, 2014). President Obama recently asked congress to pass an emergency funding bill of 3.7 billion dollars in order to aid the minors arriving to the United States. This funding bill would add to the U.S. federal deficit, which would not benefit one American citizen.
