“We the People of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” These are the words that launched the ongoing development of a better life for many Europeans. Men and women oppressed by a queen that told them what to grow, who to worship, and how they would be ruled.
First Im going to talk about an economic dilemma that sparked the desire to disconnect from Europe. Before the founders became founders they were involved in a mercantilist relationship with Europe. They were told what crops to plant and were forced to give a certain percent back to the mother country. Many of the colonists got fed up with this parasitic relationship. In hindsight The Queen would be better off if she knew Machiavelli. Maybe he could have warned her of the flaws in the way she chose to rule. As we read in The Prince there are many different ways to rule. You can rule off of the power of your people’s love, their fear, or a little bit of both. The way that Machiavelli himself would chose is the same of the Queen’s rule. As he discussed in chapters 25 and 26 the Queen choose to just do whatever she wanted. She was not concerned with their love for her. She knew exactly what she wanted and didn’t care how the people thought about it.…
