Many people believed that World War 1 helped women but this is false. “ World War I led to several important advances for women. Women’s war work increased support for woman suffrage and contributed to the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920. In addition, during the war, the Department of Labor created the Women in Industry Service. After the war, the Women in Industry Service became the Women’s Bureau, headed by Mary van Kleeck.” During World War 1 women dominated the workforce and did a really good job with the tasks that they were assigned. Everyone knew that women was one of the main reasons why the Allies won World War 1. When the men returned they quickly disposed of the women even though they were good at their jobs. “With the young men away fighting, this very important work was done by women. It was very dangerous to work with explosive chemicals because it meant that one explosion in a factory could trigger many other ones. They were used to some extent in all of the shops, but most of the time the women employees worked in the machinery, supply, and public works departments. Other manufacturing industries were also in need of female power machine operators due to the lack of male workers.” When the world needed women the most they pushed through the harsh working conditions just to help people that were in the war. They wanted to show people that they should be treated the same as men. “ World War I was to give women a chance to show a male-dominated society that they could do more than simply bring up children and stay at home.As time passed by, I could see the progress how women began to earn a great deal of respect through their active participation in labor and society during the wartime crisis.
