The United States Constitution

Written during the Philadelphia convention, the United States Constitution serves as the foundation for the country through a set of guidelines authored by the founding fathers. It has paved a pathway for the United States although it was written in a period in which ideology was significantly different from what is seen in our contemporary society. The Constitution has a large role as it provides three main purposes for the country. When it was composed it was written to provide a stronger federal government without having an excess of power, to provide citizens with protection, and to divide the power between the national and state governments. The Preamble is the introduction for the document as it is a brief introductory statement of the documents central concepts. The main concepts expressed in the constitution can be broken down into 3 major ideas. It first allows for the federal government to have a certain extent of power. It was devised to ensure that the federal government would not have too much power as the British Monarchy had on the colonists, but also not too little power which proved ineffective in the Articles of Confederation which was unable to unify the 13 colonies as one nation. It created the Constitution to have a separation of powers in the federal government, meaning that the government of the United states is divided into 3 branches.
