Some key reasons why this team was created was because it would allow Japanese-American’s to defend the United States, it would help make the case that Japanese-American’s were loyal to America and the people who were prejudice towards them could have a second opinion, it would counter the propaganda that America was involved in a “race war” in the Far East. This team was comprised of the following units: 442nd Infantry Regiment, the 522nd Field Artillery Battalion, and the 232nd Combat Engineer Company. The 442nd Regimental Combat Team was a famous all-Japanese combat team that was deployed in Italy and Germany. Some of their campaigns include in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations are the Rome-Arno Campaign from January 25, 1944 to September 1944, Northern Apennines Campaign from April 1-4, 1945, and Po Valley Campaign from April 5, 1945 to May 5, 1945. In the European Theater of Operations some of their campaigns include the following: Rhineland Campaign-Vosges from October 10, 1944 to November 1944, and the Rhineland Campaign- Maritime Alps from November 21, 1944 to March 17, 1945. This team won numerous decorations. “These men were shy, self-effacing, extremely polite, and personally clear. They are cheerful and anxious for orders, and orders were carried out without questions.” In June 1944, the 442nd Combat team would combine with the 100th Infantry team to become the 442nd 1st battalion
