The United States and Canada both share a common physical geography and history of how they were developed. Together, they make up 13% of the world’s land mass, making them the second and third largest countries in the world (Perrons, 2004). About 80% of the population in North America lives in cities. Montreal and New York City are both listed in the top twenty largest cities in North America (Largest Cities in North America by Population). There are many cultural traditions that have developed the two cities.
