A Perfect World

In many people’s eyes, today’s society is the greatest society to ever exist; the United States of America is the greatest country in the world; and the world we live in now is the best world ever. However in my eyes these ideas and thoughts couldn’t be farther from the truth. If you were to ask anyone who wasn’t from the United States who the best country is they will most likely not say the U.S. However if you ask them who the most arrogant, egotistical, and selfish country in the world is their answer will most likely be the U.S. The United States was built on the ideas that it was “the land of the free”, and the “home of the brave” because it consisted of people who wanted to move here to start over and start a new

Communities and neighborhoods would be very close knit, doing many things together. The ideas and beliefs would relate to the four traits my society is based on, trust, honestly, respect, and happiness. There are also several ethical principles that would be followed, and those would be the Common Good Approach, and the Fairness and Justice Approach, which were touched on earlier in this paper. Another ethical principle that shapes the communities in my ethical world is the Community Approach to Virtue Ethics. What this says is that “A person 's character traits are not developed in isolation, but within and by the communities to which he or she belongs, including family, church, school, and other private and public associations.” (Velasquez, Andre, Shanks, S.J., Meyer, 2015, paragraph 8) So a person who grew up in a specific community would be shaped by that community, for better or worse, but only for the better in my ideal world. This can relate to both the business and government parts of the society because everyone would be shaped by the four traits meaning everyone would have similar morals and behaviors. This is beneficial when talking about the relationship between people and their managers/bosses. People of power would be more open to the suggestions of others and take into account what everyone has to say; they wouldn’t just do what they think is best. The would respect the opinions and ideas of the workers not in the same position as them because they are making decisions based on the Common Good Approach. Also if someone were to make a mistake or do something incorrect in the workplace they would be given another chance, or if they were going to lose their job it will be made very clear why they are losing it. There would be a good working relationship between workers and their bosses, which makes the workplace more enjoyable while at the same time boosting the success of the

A character is a set of dispositions and those who have a good character are naturally disposed to do good things. It is believed that those with good characters are “virtuous” and that good character traits are virtues, while bad character traits are vices. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a virtue is a good and moral quality (2013).…

If a person was on a boat with five other people, and that boat could only hold five people total or it would sink, what course of action should be taken, if any? In discussing normative ethics, three major approaches offer solutions to this question, consequentialism, deontology, and virtue ethics. A consequentialist might determine that one person would have to be sacrificed for the better of all. A deontologist may forbid this type of action because it violates the premise of do the right thing no matter the consequence.…
