The United Nations And The Electronic Frontier Foundation

The United Nations (U.N.) and the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) collide with their ideology on digital censorship of the free internet. The EFF is a nonprofit organization whose sole purpose is defending the general population’s civil liberties in the digital community through impact litigation, policy analysis, activism, and technology development (Electronic Frontier Foundation). While, the United Nation’s mission statement is to, take action on the issues confronting humanity in the 21st century, such as peace and security, climate change, sustainable development, human rights, disarmament, terrorism, humanitarian and health emergencies, gender equality, governance, food production, and more (UN News Center). Recently, circumstances of cyber violence have led to the United Nations working together with American feminists to push for the complete censorship of the free internet. Being digitally connected to limitless boundaries of the world has created a new type of threat. A cyber threat that can affect the mental stability of online users. Cyber violence or cyber bullying is the use of cell phones, instant messaging, e-mail, chat rooms or social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter to harass, threaten or intimidate someone (WhatIs.com).
