The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development taken place in Rio de Janeiro in June 2012 led to a proposal of 17 goals and its 169 targets. The proposal covered a range of global issues that need to be dealt with by 2030. The 7th goal emphasizing on closing the energy gap and ensure that sustainable, safe and modern energy services are accessible globally. It also aims to double the energy efficiency without having to compromise the increase in the share of renewable energy in the global energy production.
