In the story “Young Goodman Brown” written by Nathaniel Hawthorne is about a man in search of his faith. He perceives his neighbors as a healthy community dedicated to serving the people with good wills. This perception Goodman Brown holds soon changes upon the life-changing journey into the dark forest. This story is not only indicative to evil within humanity but also, the Dark Romantics Era that helped illustrate this story. “Young Goodman Brown” constructed a story of a man suffering from a lack of faith in him, which then gears into discovering sin surrounding him at all times.

Hawthorne writes a very interesting piece of art as he compares the Devil with Brown, he provides great detail in this regard. ‘Still they might have taken for father and son”(Hawthorne 2) .The comparison between the devil and Brown perhaps mean the devil has a great amount of background information that can almost transform into Goodman’s personal Devil. This is indicative to the structure of the essay as it presents the relationship of the Devil and Brown. With the resemblance presented, this has many readers creating different opinion to this regard. Hurley states the relationship between the Devil and Brown, “ Despite David Levin’s reminder of the Devil’s wills and powers, this personage is so curiously described that he is indisputably Goodman Brown’s personal devil “ ( Hurley 413). The devil’s resemblance with Goodman is a major roll; analyzer 's concluded the relationship with the Devil has a great deal of connection. Essentially, Goodman only has the devil to fall upon, which places him in a weak state of mind. The devil holds immense background information regarding Goodman; this perhaps is why there is such resemblance within each other. Hawthorne places the devil in a powerful state that Brown cannot escape but to absorb the power overtaking him. Hawthorne places Goodman Brown is a state of discomfort as he encounters eye opening incidents; He realizes he has been living a false life filled with lies all along. After meeting with the devil and being exposed to the members of the devil practicing evil, Goodman recognizes his wife Faith is being baptized to be a joining member of the evil. He then loses all faith within himself and all humanity. Hawthorne places Goodman is a state of abhorrence, “There is no good on earth; and sin is but a name. Come devil for thee is the world given” (Hawthorne 6).Goodman
