Refection: The Unconventional Guest Speaker In Business 101, as a class, we were introduced to various guest speakers, who worked in some aspect of business. The guest speaker, who stood out the most, was Jared Loftus. Unlike the majority of guest speakers who discussed how great their company is and their success, Loftus took a different approach. Instead of focusing on his success, he discussed his “failures” in depth, which (in my opinion) was the most important lesson of all.
Jared Loftus is an entrepreneur who can be considered a “very successful” and accomplished businessman. Loftus started his career by opening up two food trucks, which he later sold, and started a t-shirt company, which he still runs online. Although he runs a successful online t-shirt company, he is the Chief Operating Officer of Mastery Prep, which is an ACT Prep company. Like all college students, Loftus did not know what he wanted to do with his life, but he had an entrepreneur spirit that could not be extinguished. He had great success, but with great success, failures can occur, and Loftus did not come out unscathed. Looking back at some of his business choices, he does regret a few poor choices he has made, but most importantly, those choices led him to where he is today. Instead, he sees failure as a moment in time that does not go your way, but that moment might turn into something good. He went on to explain how failure is a good thing and how to view failure as a positive thing. Out of all of the guest

By sharing his story, I was able to learn from his mistakes, and I learned a lot of valuable information about how to run a business. In conclusion, Jared Loftus truly made a good impression and I will definitely put his advice to good use in the

I live in Temecula and for many years, I had not seen the essence of having an estate planning attorney to help me with my estate and trusts. This was not until my dear friend, Robby, died in a car accident without any will or clear guidelines of how his estate would be handled upon his death. In addition to the grief that his family suffered, they also had to deal with several creditors who practically made their lives a living hell. Eventually there were a lot of wrangles between the family members as each one of them tried to hold on to a part of his estate.…

John McLemore’s Self-Alienation from his Shit Town and Shit Life The ultimate, yet unspoken goal in life is to be successful. Success comes in many forms, like gaining money, knowledge, and the ability to form friendships and relationships with other people. However, if people cannot obtain success in these different realms, they are often depicted in literature and in reality as being a failure. In Brian Reed’s podcast, “S-Town”, he is lured into Bibb county, Alabama after hearing rumors of police corruption and a murder cover-up.…

I enjoyed many things about our guest speaker. However, if I had to choose one it would have to be when he shared the story of why he left the airline company he was working for in Dallas Texas. The reason I chose this part of his presentation is because he did not agree with the moral decisions they were making, and decided to leave because of them. In the world of business cold hard decisions are made everyday, however Ken Janssen saw the decisions that the company was making and left because of them.…

Of all the characteristics discussed in chapter one that define a successful businessman, Nick Woodman (Woodman) seemed to display several qualities such as a passion for his business, tenacity despite failure, customer/customer focus, and execution intelligence. The degree to which each characteristic contributed varies, but is still great all the same. First, the passion that he has for his business and the initial idea GoPro allowed Woodman to create a product that not he himself as an extreme sports enthusiast would use, but anyone that would want to document or a capture a moment worth sharing through their eyes. Being so passionate about his business it allowed him to take advantage of five key motives: being able to learn and repeat, able to work for an extended period, able to overcome any present hurdles, able to receive and distinguish constructive from negative criticism, and being…

Since the moment James Spaniolo walked into the room I noticed that he was going to make it a very casual presentation by the way be took off his coat and made himself comfortable. He was an excellent speaker who spoke with a lot of confidence and clarity. I noticed that before beginning his presentation, he stood in the power pose, which is something Ms. Nielson always encouraged us to do before speaking in front of an audience. Throughout his speech, I got the impression that he is a very humble, hard-working, and wise individual. It was clear to me that he is very passionate about what he has done and is currently doing career-wise.…
