The book I chose for my independent reading project was The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, by Michelle Hodkin. I would recommend this book to people between the ages of 14 and 18. Hopkin's book is in the category of young adult novels which describes the ages I would recommend. There were definitely negative points to this book but the positives outweighed them.
The negative components to this book were present throughout the novel. From the first paragraph I I could tell the writing style would disappoint. The sentence flow was weak and bored me. Reading for long periods of time was difficult due to this. Also, the writing style in general was unintersting. While reading I felt as though it could have been a ok but not great college essay. Reading books by authors like Stephen King of Colleen Hoover befor this would leave you wanting more. Propper grammer was used but there is a set of expectations for published novel that this one

I understand this is fiction but a novel should have a level of relatability. Mara’s post traumatic stress disorder is realistic in the beginning of the novel but it soon became annoying and overplayed. This is a serious topic that tons of people suffer from. Simple social situations which gave Mara little to no stress were disturbed by this disease; In real life most of the occurrences would never happen.
Post traumatic stress disorder lead to Mara getting a power that could be considered a “superpower”. Superpowers are used a lot in fiction young adult books but they should only be used to a certain extent. Both Mara and Noah get these powers after a disturbing incident when they live far from each other. Not only did this happen but their powers were connected. Also, Mara and Noah’s relationship grew much too quickly. He was known for being mysterious but he opened up to Mara soon after they met. Although there were some problems in this book I enjoyed many things in the

Melinda Sordino’s behaviors are best diagnosed as posttraumatic stress disorder with a secondary disorder of depression. Melinda’s symptoms last for a whole school year, which is consistent with the one month bench mark for most posttraumatic stress disorder patients. One of Melinda’s symptoms of her posttraumatic stress disorder is that multiple times throughout the book she bites her lips and nails to the point of pain and even sometimes until she bleeds. At one point in the story, she even says, “I pull my lower lip all the way in between my teeth. If I try hard enough, maybe I can gobble my whole self this way”.…

You can liken the future’s difference from the nineteen-eighties to the present.…

The book that I read was called Not My Type by Melanie Jacobson, it has 225 pages. It took me a little under a month to finish this book. The things that I learned in this book is that people aren't always who they say they are. You need to learn to earn trust rather than just giving it out to anyone. When Pepper (main character) gets her wedding called off by her fiance (Landon)her parents paid off the debt from the wedding.…

The book that I chose to read was The Curious Incident of the Dog At Night-time it is about a teenager named Christopher Boone and his life. The book is written from his perspective and talks mostly about his life with mild autism and his family relationships. Christopher’s autism makes what most people may think of as a simple task, very difficult. For example when Christopher had to ride the subway he was very scared, so much so that could barely function, this was triggered by of the amount of people around him. For me these struggles are not something I was familiar with before reading this book.…

How did I feel about the book Unlikely Allies? I had lots of difficulty reading the book, from the sudden changes in scenes to the exhausting writing. It felt like a sloppy mess of sudden twists and turns that would, in most books, keep me intrigued, but this did not interest me at all. If the author added just a little bit of flair to the certain parts of the writing then I think I would really enjoy the book. The book had things I didn’t like, a few things I did like, and a couple things I would change.…
