This all changed when "the adoption in 2006 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities constituted a major step towards viewing them as a full members of society with the same rights as everyone else." ( World Medical Association, 2015) This disorder is something that is not completely understood or accepted in the African American community. They are the number one community who do not tolerate this disorder. There is common cultural predisposition in our community to emotional rely more on religion and family than health care professionals. I could relate to this because I am a latina and I grow up knowing that my religious and my family comes first than doctors. I don’t know if it happens in different cultures, but in my culture we try the home remedies first to cure ourselves, and we also pray, if that doesn’t work then we end up going to the doctors, but first we try to cure ourselves. Faith and family will always be a significant part of our culture, but it cannot replace the medical attention required to properly manage this or any type of
