In the last part of the poem, the author explains to the woman not to care much about the decisions she had made because she has hands and can built herself without feeling the need of categorizing into what society or men say. Kay was inspired by Richard Siken’s poem “Detail of the Woods”. His phrase, “Everyone needs a place. It shouldn’t be inside of someone else.” (The Huffington Post, p.1) Kay meant for this woman to understand she has hands to build and she should not let other define who she is. This idea is the main point Kay shows to have negation though out her poem.
In conclusion, “The Type” is a poem that not only brings negation of objectifying women but also by providing an ending solution to the problem. This poem can be interpretation of arranging the form of men, or society. This is not limited to both being part of the interpretation. After analyzing the theme of the poem and interpreting why negation takes part into the writing, it is concluded that this poem successfully executed the idea that wanted to get across the female
