In J.R.R Tolkien’s epic fantasy The Two Towers, Frodo and his friends are doing everything possible to stop the evil forces of Sauron. Some are trying to defeat Sauraman’s forces first and frodo, accompanied by his loyal friend Sam, are in their way to Mordor to destroy the One and most powerful ring. While some of the heroes encounter giant living trees, wizards, and huge orc armies, Frodo and Sam are led to Mordor by a corrupted little creature called Gollum. They could achieve victory against sauron or fail making all of Middle-Earth peril. The author’s purpose for writing this novel was to entertain the reader. A detail why Sam is a very loyal friend is that he would always protect Frodo from Gollum and check everything Gollum did or said while Frodo was asleep. In page 382 the text says, “But at that touch Frodo stirred and cried out softly in his sleep, and immediately Sam was wide awake. The first thing he saw was Gollum-pawing at master, as he thought.” which shows that Sam is always listening to anything that happens to Frodo and takes care of him during his sleep. Another detail seen in the text that shows Sam’s loyalty is that Sam followed the Orcs who took Frodo. In page 407-408 the text states, “They had taken Frodo’s body. They were off. He could not catch them up. Still he laboured on. The Orcs reached the tunnel and were passing in. Those with the burden went first, and behind them there was a good deal of struggling and jostling. Sam came on.” which demonstrates Sam’s loyalty even when Sam thought Frodo was dead by still following the Orcs to make sure nothing bad happened to Frodo’s body.
