The Government's Arguments Against Abortion

One of the major controversial topic that has been taking storm in the news and politics is abortion, the debate whether or not if women have the right to do what they want with their body versus removing tissue that has the potential of becoming a human being. One side, “...argues that even non-viable, undeveloped human life is a sacred and must be protected by the government.” (Head), but on the other side it, “... argues that in cases where human personhood cannot be proven… government does not have the right to impede a woman’s right to decide whether or not to continue a pregnancy.” (Head). In general, “...the person believes that the government has an obligation to preserve all human life, regardless of intent, viability, or quality-of-life concerns.” (Head). There are also varying degrees in pro-life where one might be absolute in pro-life while another supports it, but in cases of rape, insest, or would put the mom in danger are reasons to abort. There is also a human unlike all other could be born, “... presence of life alone, or of unique DNA, that defines a personhood.” (Head). They also defend that if one is not ready for a baby or can’t afford to take care of one, “Adoption is a viable alternative to abortion … 1.5 million American families wanting to adopt a child…” (Lowen). “The new human zygote has a genetic composition that is absolutely unique from itself, different from any other human that has ever existed.” (Schwarzwalder). The baby undergoes major milestones in becoming a human being like, “At 22 days after conception the child’s heart begins to circulate his own blood … At just six weeks, the child’s eyes and eyelids, nose, mouth, and tongue have formed. Electrical brain activity can be detected at six or seven weeks … By ten weeks after conception the child can make bodily movements.” (Schwarzwalder). Almost all of the arguments that pro-life brings I think that either they are pushing their morals on someone that will not agree with their point of view. For example, “In the instance of rape and incest, proper medical care can ensure that a woman will not get pregnant.” (Lowen) I believe is a repulsive view stating that a woman you is raped should have been on birth control puts the rapist as less of a responsibility for their actions on him and also places the victim as some she could have avoided. The woman who never wanted a child is forced to have child doesn’t need to be on birth control, it is that woman’s choice, but what isn’t her choice is being forced to bare a baby. Even if the woman was taking a form of birth control, it is never absolute to be preventable. I am also pro-choice because I am a feminist that believes women have the right over their own reproductive system and government who would say otherwise is intruding on that woman’s rights. People who are pro-choice usually believe that once the sperm penetrates the egg’s wall it is now a fetus, that will become a human and a soul, but scientifically there is no evidence that the zygote have a soul. After 22 weeks the baby can survive without the mother, but almost all abortion happen before this time frame. The idea to force a woman to have an unwanted child is abuse to her and the child. Staying abstinent in today’s
