“Why should I get vaccinated? Is it a waste of time and money?” According to The Center of Disease Control, 40% of all American parents are refusing one or more vaccines for their children. So this is clearly a significant public health issue today. There are many people who hold the belief of vaccines for several reasons like curing diseases, but they are not informed of the truths of vaccines. In the modern era, parents should have the choice on whether or not their children should get the vaccine. The first problem created by vaccines is that they are becoming more essential and necessary to have a better life. One argument that those who believe in vaccines may say is that major medical organization state that vaccines are safe, but this is also deniable due to the fact that any vaccine containing lab-altered viruses or bacteria has an inherent ability to cause injury or even death (Fisher). If side effects allow for the possibility of death wouldn’t be the safest thing to use especially if you have the option of using it or not. Although the FDA and other prestigious organization are highly respected companies, there has been a reported 12,000 and 14,000 cases since 1990 of hospitalization, injuries and deaths since 1990 (Should, 118). Another argument that can be said to prove that vaccines should be required is that vaccines look to protect the “herd” but this can also be proven wrong due to the fact that vaccinated individuals tend to be the unhealthiest due to the side effects that persist in each vaccine. (Should, 119) A third argument is that all vaccines help stop the virus from affecting individuals, which is incorrect. For example in 2006, the large outbreak of mumps, 92% of the cases were vaccinated against the mumps. (Miller) Although there are many arguments trying to prove that vaccinations should be required, parents should be able to decide whether or not vaccination is the best option due to the fact that their child is not just a part of the herd they are an …show more content…
The decision is sometimes not even given without the individual 's approval taking away the person 's freedom. These freedoms are being removed from pediatricians to national or federal government. The second reason people should be given the choice on whether to use the vaccine or not is because of the side effects. Vaccines, like drugs, also have side effects, but they are unexpected and not warned to the user. The third reason is that vaccines are helping out the manufacturers rather than the user themselves. This can lead to pharmaceutical companies releasing nonfunctional vaccines or corrupted government officials forcing it onto the people. Finally, the arguments made by the opposing side are also one sided and usually don 't look at all of the information present.
