Human Trafficking There is an estimated 21 million victims of human trafficking in the world (Forced labor, human trafficking and slavery). Human trafficking is defined as; the illegal movements of people for the purpose of exploitation (Abas). According to Child Trafficking Statistics, these victims are 59% women, 14% men, 17% girls, and 10% boys. Human trafficking brings in an estimated 32 billion US dollars each year, making it the second most profitable criminal enterprise in the world (Perkins). Countries across the globe are not doing enough to prevent human trafficking and we need to do more because it causes sex trafficking, child trafficking, and forced labor. The girls that are bought for the sex trade are given quotas on a nightly basis and if those quotas are not met, the trafficker forces abuse against the victims (Perkins). The emotional abuse is put into action to scare the victims. They are manipulated by being lured with false promises of jobs or better lives but once they are put into the sex industry they are often isolated, renamed and even branded (Sex Trafficking in the US). No child should have to endure the abuse while being in the global commercial sex trade. Yet, two million children are appointed to these unwanted encounters each year. Ohio alone has a report of about 1,078 kids trafficked annually (Purdu).
