The Truman Show: The Allegory Of The Cave By Plato

In the movie, The Truman Show, a lot of the main concepts were shown throughout the entire movie. One concept that was shown was the Allegory of the Cave by Plato. The movie uses the allegory to start the basis of the movie. Another main thing is the perception of things and how they can be manipulated. Lastly, the movie talks about the nature of reality on if a person’s reality is true or fake. All these concepts were used to show just how much you can affect a person’s “reality” from birth which is what the movie was about. The Allegory of the Cave is very similar to the movie in a few ways. The person who escapes the cave relates to Sylvia who tries to tell Truman what is actually happening. However, Truman doesn’t get what she says and doesn’t really believe what is going on. This was because the only thing he saw was the life he had now and believed only that. This is similar to the images of the fire from the allegory. This quote is significant because talks about how people will believe things such as reality to be true if we are able to see it. The senses are deceivable which can affect a person’s thinking on what they believe is true or not. Truman believes that the place he is in is real because that is all he has been since he was born. In the movie, Christof is trying to make Truman believe that he is living in reality, but he was actually in a reality show. The movie is about finding his true reality by escaping his fake and artificial one. He is trying to change his perception on his reality by escaping. However, Christof gave him the perfect life, but he can’t just take it since it really is not the true reality. It is not real and eventually Truman could find
