Franklin Roosevelt, who was our president that led Americans through the Depression and WWII died. Which lead to Harry S. Truman the vice president taking over as president. He carried out Roosevelt 's plans and came up with new plans for ending and reconstructing war throughout the world. Truman is known in history for all of his contributions and hard work put into our war effort and helping international economy. The Truman Doctrine of containment was a United States policy that stopped expansion of the Soviet throughout the Cold War. Truman made a promise that he would help contain communism anywhere he could including Europe. The Truman Doctrine became the foundation of the president 's foreign policy and placed the U.S. in the role of global police. The Doctrine was informally extended to become the beginning of American Cold War policy throughout Europe and around the world. It moved American foreign policy toward the Soviet Union to a policy of containment based on Soviet expansion which was advised by diplomat George Kennan. The Truman Doctrine truly reflected how aggressive Truman was. For years Britain supported Greece, but was near bankruptcy and was forced to drastically reduce their involvement. Truman explained that Greece and Turkey would be sabotaged without the support from our nations therefore, Truman asked Congress to authorize 400 million dollars in emergency assistance. In his speech the president described what is known now as the Truman Doctrine.…
