At some point in our lives we have a Grendel that we have to face. Just as Beowulf faced and defeated his monster we can triumph over ours but it won’t be easy as you can tell by how Beowulf struggle to fight Grendel but yet Beowulf rose victorious despite the casualties he suffered of his men. There are a few things that this story is played upon. First, is heroism although I tend to believe that Beowulf symbolizes the meaning of a hero but some may question whether or not Beowulf can be describe as a one. I can see why but to an extent. Even though a hero can be described as someone who does selfless act with expecting anything in return. I agree but only to a certain degree and here is why. Like other stories before that there always a hero that is created and sometime exaggerated of the persona that it portrays. One story that I can relate to Beowulf is “Gilgamesh” demigod who like Beowulf has superhuman strength and also battles his Grendel which in Gilgamesh it is his mortality and the fear of death. Like Gilgamesh, Beowulf lets his pride get the better of him and pays extremely for it. Is like I always say every super hero has their kryptonite, and gold, treasure, and pride is Beowulf’s downfall and it will soon consume him and cost him dearly. Also, “The Odyssey” shares a parallel story line similar to Beowulf. Like Beowulf battle against Grendel and his mother Odysseus battle was not only to survive the Trojan War but goes into battle with the god of the sea Poseidon. These two characters has the qualities that fit to be labeled as a hero but both Odysseus and Beowulf become one for the wrong reasons. Unlike Beowulf Odysseus goes into battle with vengeance as his motive and Beowulf goes into battle with the purpose for good to triumph over
