If a student does want to express an idea or talk about a subject, it must be completely disassociated from all emotional offense toward other students. Many universities are striving towards making there, “campuses into “safe spaces,” where young adults are shielded from words and ideas that make some uncomfortable. This movement seeks to punish anyone who interferes with that aim, even accidentally” (Lukianoff). The goal of a natural diversity within opinions or ideas is being taken away and is seen as an offense towards those distressed by a certain subject. It is as if the idea of teaching something that causes any emotional trigger to another student cannot be allowed in the curriculum. For instance, a Harvard University law student had requested for the content of rape law to not be taught within the classroom as though it may cause a former victim of rape to feel uncomfortable in the classroom. This causes college campuses to question what kind of diverse topics they can teach in their schools. The purpose of the diversity between subjects is being lost due to college campuses not being allowed to teach a complete curriculum. Former students at Harvard University who study law and cannot learn the whole content of their field are losing the idea of diversity even within their own field. Professors and faculty are being told not to teach rape law or other diverse topics, even though it relates to the curriculum. We see on these college campuses what can and cannot be taught which loses that connection between being diverse. If faculty cannot teach what they choose to, then the diversity of subjects is being lost throughout the campus. Those students who do become emotionally offended by a certain topic are the ones losing the meaning behind diversity. In summary, diversity is becoming more of a different concept than what it really means. Many people are taking the wrong idea of diversity
