The book The Trouble With Goodbye, written by Sarra Cannon, uses the technique of conflict to address the main characters problems. Leigh Anne meets Knox after a car accident ends up falling in love and opening up to him about her past. Learning to not care about a person’s past and loving them for who they are now is what this novel is really about. Throughout The Trouble With Goodbye, the story has many conflicts with people judging other people about who they are and what they look like. An example of this when Leigh Anne states, “He has been nothing but ultra-sweet to me, and I am just not able to believe he would hurt anyone on purpose,” (Cannon, 82). This quote has a conflict because other people are spreading a rumor about Knox saying that he’s dangerous even though he’s been a nice gentlemen to Leigh Anne.

This quote that is said by Leigh Anne expresses a conflict, “He starts up a conversation and when I look over, I think I recognize him. Then, as he is talking, I realize wow, this guy is Burke Redfield. … “But when he pulled off onto some weird dirt road and parked, I knew something was definitely wrong,” (Cannon, 342 & 347). The character Leigh Anne met a famous person who was not who she thought he was and the guy (Burke Redfield) actually just wanted to rape Leigh Anne, which created a serious problem for her.
