I went in the Palais de Justice of Montreal with José, room 3.11. It was the end of all the trial during the pleadings. It was a criminal trial of Mr. Legault; he was accused of murder and transaction that involved violence. Jean- Michel Legault had some debts and in order to repay them he planned the murder of one of his friend Jeff. Jean- Michel and Jeff had to make an exchange of money and drugs in the west of Montreal. Jean- Michel knew since the beginning that Jeff was coming with money, exactly seven thousand dollars, and brought with him a knife. He knew that he will kill Jeff; it was all planned and deliberated. He brought with him a knife, a hose and gasoline. In order to prove that Jean- Michel is guilty, the prosecutor used a …show more content…
It is quit hard to describe the room, but it is certainly not looking a like as the court rooms that are shown in American’s movies. The trial was conducted in a much respected way: people were in silence, when the prosecutor spoke the stand- off listened to him with respect and vice versa. The judge, Madame Julie, listened to the pleadings without any interference. She only spoke at the end in order to announce to the jury that they will have to come back in two days. In fact, at the end of the trial, he made a joke with his lawyer and then left the court room with a security …show more content…
Anyone could enter to a trial and then leave expect if the case is private. For me it was surprising, the fact that the judge did not interfere, she just listened to everything that is it. And finally, as said before I did not know that the jury was not allowed to talk about the trial with anyone. When it comes to our justice system, I think that it is already great but the only thing that should be improved is the time before the trial. It is true that both parts need time for the preparation of the trial, but sometimes it takes so much before the trial starts. For example, a murder was committed in 2009 but the trial happened only in the beginning of 2011. Also, I think that the accused should be putted in a closed room during the trial, for the security of everyone. We never know what could pass by his mind. It is insane but at the same time understood. In brief, I think there are not a lot of things to change or improve for the process of administering
