America is often seen as perfect, however, the Trent Affair is a great example of why it’s not. We all make mistakes, but we have to look for a way to fix them. The Trent Affair was the diplomatic crisis that would have most likely brought Great Britain and the United States to war. We treated the state unfairly and it backfired on us. Even though a war had not seemed possible, the English were highly offended. Both sides were able to manage and avoid an armed conflict between themselves. This was during the civil war area in December of 1861. The confederacy appointed two emissaries to represent its government overseas. The two men were James Murray he was assigned to London and John Slidell to Paris.
